The Gods Praise Rama and Indra Rains Nectar

The gods praise Rama and extol his divine glory after the victory. Indra then sends a shower of nectar that revives the fallen Vanaras and bears.

Chaupai

तब रघुपति अनुसासन पाई। मातलि चलेउ चरन सिरु नाई॥ आए देव सदा स्वारथी। बचन कहहिं जनु परमारथी॥ १ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

taba raghupati anusāsana pāī। mātali caleu carana siru nāī॥ āe deva sadā svārathī। bacana kahahiṃ janu paramārathī॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

Then, having received Raghupati's command, Matali, Indra's charioteer, bowed his head to the Lord's feet and departed. After that, the gods, ever self-interested, came speaking words as though they were great men of righteousness.

Chaupai

दीन बंधु दयाल रघुराया। देव कीन्हि देवन्ह पर दाया॥ बिस्व द्रोह रत यह खल कामी। निज अघ गयउ कुमारगगामी॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

dīna bandhu dayāla raghurāyā। deva kīnhi devanha para dāyā॥ bisva droha rata yaha khala kāmī। nija agha gayau kumāragamī॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

O Friend of the helpless, O compassionate Raghuraja, O Supreme Lord! You have shown great mercy to the gods. This wicked, lustful one, devoted to enmity against the world and walking the evil path, has perished by his own sins.

तुम्ह समरूप ब्रह्म अबिनासी। सदा एकरस सहज उदासी॥ अकल अगुन अज अनघ अनामय। अजित अमोघसक्ति करुनामय॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

tumha samarūpa brahma abināsī। sadā ekarasa sahaja udāsī॥ akala aguna aja anagha anāmaya। ajita amoghasakti karuṇāmaya॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

You are of the same form as Brahman, imperishable; ever of one taste, naturally detached; undivided, without गुणs, unborn, sinless, free from all taint, unconquerable, endowed with unfailing power, and full of compassion.

Chaupai

मीन कमठ सूकर नरहरी। बामन परसुराम बपु धरी॥ जब जब नाथ सुरन्ह दुखु पायो। नाना तनु धरि तुम्हइँ नसायो॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

mīna kamaṭha sūkara naraharī। bāmana parasurāma bapu dharī॥ jaba jaba nātha suranha dukhu pāyo। nānā tanu dhari tumhaiṃ nasāyo॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

It was You who assumed the forms of fish, tortoise, boar, man-lion, dwarf, and Parashurama. O Lord, whenever the gods suffered distress, You removed it by taking on many forms.

यह खल मलिन सदा सुरद्रोही। काम लोभ मद रत अति कोही॥ अधम सिरोमनि तव पद पावा। यह हमरें मन बिसमय आवा॥ ५ ॥

yaha khala malina sadā suradrohī। kāma lobha mada rata ati kohī॥ adhama siromani tava pada pāvā। yaha hamareṃ mana bismaya āvā॥ 5 ॥

Meaning:

This vile, impure-hearted one, ever hostile to the gods, devoted to lust, greed, and pride, and exceedingly wrathful, attained Your supreme feet, though he was the crest-jewel of the degraded. This has filled our minds with wonder.

हम देवता परम अधिकारी। स्वारथ रत प्रभु भगति बिसारी॥ भव प्रबाहँ संतत हम परे। अब प्रभु पाहि सरन अनुसरे॥ ६ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

hama devatā parama adhikārī। svāratha rata prabhu bhagati bisārī॥ bhava pravāhaṃ santata hama pare। aba prabhu pāhi sarana anusare॥ 6 ॥

Meaning:

We gods, though of the highest rank, have, being devoted to self-interest, forgotten devotion to the Lord and have constantly fallen into the current of worldly existence, the cycle of birth and death. Now, O Lord, we have come to your refuge; protect us.

Doha

करि बिनती सुर सिद्ध सब रहे जहँ तहँ कर जोरि। अति सप्रेम तन पुलकि बिधि अस्तुति करत बहोरि॥ ११० ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kari binatī sura siddha saba rahe jahaṃ tahaṃ kara jori। ati saprema tana pulaki bidhi astuti karata bahori॥ 110 ॥

Meaning:

After making their prayer, all the gods and siddhas remained where they were, with hands joined. Then Brahma, his body thrilled with intense love, again began to offer praise.

जय राम सदा सुखधाम हरे। रघुनायक सायक चाप धरे॥ भव बारन दारन सिंह प्रभो। गुन सागर नागर नाथ बिभो॥ १ ॥

jaya rāma sadā sukha-dhāma hare। raghunāyaka sāyaka cāpa dhare॥ bhava bārana dārana siṃha prabho। guna sāgara nāgara nātha bibho॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

Victory to Rama, the ever-abiding abode of bliss and the remover of suffering! O Raghunāyaka, who hold bow and arrows, may you be victorious. O Lord, you are like a lion in tearing apart the elephant of worldly existence. O Master, O all-pervading one, you are the ocean of virtues and supreme in wisdom.

Chhand

तन काम अनेक अनूप छबी। गुन गावत सिद्ध मुनींद्र कबी॥ जसु पावन रावन नाग महा। खगनाथ जथा करि कोप गहा॥ २ ॥

tana kāma aneka anūpa chabī। guna gāvata siddha munīndra kabī॥ jasu pāvana rāvana nāga mahā। khaganātha jathā kari kopa gahā॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

Your body has a beauty surpassing countless Cupids. Siddhas, great sages, and poets keep singing your virtues. Your fame is pure. In anger, you seized Ravana, the great serpent, like Garuda seizing a snake.

Chhand

जन रंजन भंजन सोक भयं। गतक्रोध सदा प्रभु बोधमयं॥ अवतार उदार अपार गुनं। महि भार बिभंजन ग्यानघनं॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

jana rañjana bhañjana soka bhayaṃ। gatakrodha sadā prabhu bodhamayaṃ॥ avatāra udāra apāra gunaṃ। mahi bhāra bibhañjana gyānaghanaṃ॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

O Lord, you delight your devotees, destroy sorrow and fear, and are ever free from anger and full of consciousness. Your incarnation is noble, endowed with limitless virtues, removing the burden of the earth, and dense with wisdom.

Chhand

अज ब्यापकमेकमनादि सदा। करुनाकर राम नमामि मुदा॥ रघुबंस बिभूषन दूषन हा। कृत भूप बिभीषन दीन रहा॥ ४ ॥

aja byāpaka eka manādi sadā। karuṇākara rāma namāmi mudā॥ raghubaṃsa bibhūṣana dūṣana hā। kṛta bhūpa bibhīṣana dīna rahā॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

[Yet even after taking incarnation], you are eternal, unborn, all-pervading, one without a second, and without beginning. O Rama, ocean of compassion, I bow to you with joy. O ornament of the Raghuvansha, destroyer of the demon Dushan and remover of all faults! Vibhishana was helpless, and you made him [the king of Lanka].

गुन ग्यान निधान अमान अजं। नित राम नमामि बिभुं बिरजं॥ भुजदंड प्रचंड प्रताप बलं। खल बृंद निकंद महा कुसलं॥ ५ ॥

guna gyāna nidhāna amāna ajaṃ। nita rāma namāmi bibhuṃ birajaṃ॥ bhujadaṃḍa pracaṃḍa pratāpa balaṃ। khala bṛnda nikanda mahā kusalaṃ॥ 5 ॥

Meaning:

O treasure of virtue and knowledge, free from pride, unborn, all-pervading, and beyond all impurity, O Rama, I bow to you forever. The glory and strength of your mighty arms are formidable. You are supremely skilled in destroying the host of the wicked.

Chhand

बिनु कारन दीन दयाल हितं। छबि धाम नमामि रमा सहितं॥ भव तारन कारन काज परं। मन संभव दारुन दोष हरं॥ ६ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

binu kārana dīna dayāla hitaṃ। chabi dhāma namāmi ramā sahitaṃ॥ bhava tārana kārana kāja paraṃ। mana saṃbhava dāruna doṣa haraṃ॥ 6 ॥

Meaning:

O causelessly compassionate benefactor of the poor, and abode of beauty, I bow to you together with Rama (Sita). You ferry beings across the world-ocean, are beyond both cause and effect, and remove the terrible faults born from the mind.

Chhand

सर चाप मनोहर त्रोन धरं। जलजारुन लोचन भूपबरं॥ सुख मंदिर सुंदर श्रीरमनं। मद मार मुधा ममता समनं॥ ७ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

sara cāpa manohara trona dharaṃ। jalajāruna locana bhūpavaraṃ॥ sukha mandira sundara śrīramanaṃ। mada māra mudhā mamatā samanaṃ॥ 7 ॥

Meaning:

You bear a lovely bow, arrows, and quiver. Your eyes are red like a lotus. You are the best among kings, the abode of bliss, beautiful, dear to Lakshmi, and the destroyer of pride, desire, and false attachment.

Chhand

अनवद्य अखंड न गोचर गो। सब रूप सदा सब होइ न गो॥ इति बेद बदंति न दंतकथा। रबि आतप भिन्नमभिन्न जथा॥ ८ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

anavadya akhaṃḍa na gocara go। saba rūpa sadā saba hoi na go॥ iti beda badaṃti na daṃtakathā। rabi ātapa bhinnamabhinna jathā॥ 8 ॥

Meaning:

You are blameless and indivisible, beyond the range of the senses. Though ever manifest in all forms, the Vedas declare that you are not merely one among them. This is no legend or fantasy. Just as the sun and its rays are distinct and yet inseparable, so you are both distinct from the world and yet non-different from it.

Chhand

कृतकृत्य बिभो सब बानर ए। निरखंति तवानन सादर ए॥ धिग जीवन देव सरीर हरे। तव भक्ति बिना भव भूलि परे॥ ९ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kṛtakṛtya bibho saba bānara e। nirakhaṃti tavānana sādara e॥ dhiga jīvana deva sarīra hare। tava bhakti binā bhava bhūli pare॥ 9 ॥

Meaning:

O all-pervading Lord, all these monkeys are fulfilled and blessed, for they gaze upon your face with reverence. And, O Hari, shame upon our life and divine bodies, since without your devotion we wander lost in the world, forgetful of the true path.

Chhand

अब दीनदयाल दया करिऐ। मति मोरि बिभेदकरी हरिऐ॥ जेहि ते बिपरीत क्रिया करिऐ। दुख सो सुख मानि सुखी चरिऐ॥ १० ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

aba dīnadayāla dayā kariē। mati mori bibhedakarī hariē॥ jehi te biparīta kriyā kariē। dukha so sukha māni sukhī cariē॥ 10 ॥

Meaning:

O merciful Lord of the lowly, now show me compassion and remove this divisive intellect of mine, by which I act contrary to what is right and, taking sorrow to be happiness, wander in delusion.

Chhand

खल खंडन मंडन रम्य छमा। पद पंकज सेवित संभु उमा॥ नृप नायक दे बरदानमिदं। चरनांबुज प्रेमु सदा सुभदं॥ ११ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

khala khaṃḍana maṃḍana ramya chamā। pada paṃkaja sevita saṃbhu umā॥ nṛpa nāyaka de baradānamidaṃ। caranāṃbuja premu sadā subhadam॥ 11 ॥

Meaning:

You are the destroyer of the wicked, the lovely ornament of the earth, and your lotus feet are served by Shiva and Uma. O leader among kings, grant me this boon: may I always have auspicious, unwavering love for your lotus feet.

Doha

बिनय कीन्हि चतुरानन प्रेम पुलक अति गात। सोभासिंधु बिलोकत लोचन नहीं अघात॥ १११ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

binaya kīnhi caturānana prema pulaka ati gāta। sobhāsiṃdhu bilokata locana nahīṃ aghāta॥ 111 ॥

Meaning:

Thus Brahmā made his humble prayer, his body thrilled with deep love. Gazing upon the ocean of beauty, Rama, his eyes could not be satisfied.

तेहि अवसर दसरथ तहँ आए। तनय बिलोकि नयन जल छाए॥ अनुज सहित प्रभु बंदन कीन्हा। आसिरबाद पिताँ तब दीन्हा॥ १ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

tehi avasara dasaratha tahāṃ āe। tanaya biloki nayana jala chāe॥ anuja sahita prabhu baṃdana kīnhā। āsirabāda pitāṃ taba dīnhā॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

At that moment, Dasharatha arrived there. Seeing his son, his eyes filled with tears. The Lord, together with Lakshmana, bowed to him, and then the father blessed him.

तात सकल तव पुन्य प्रभाऊ। जीत्यों अजय निसाचर राऊ॥ सुनि सुत बचन प्रीति अति बाढ़ी। नयन सलिल रोमावलि ठाढ़ी॥ २ ॥

tāta sakala tava punya prabhāū। jītyoṃ ajaya nisācara rāū॥ suni suta bachana prīti ati bāṛhī। nayana salila romāvali ṭhāṛhī॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

[Sri Rama said:] O father, all this is the result of your merit, for I have conquered the unconquerable king of the demons. Hearing his son’s words, his affection greatly increased. His eyes filled with tears, and the hair on his body stood on end.

Chaupai

रघुपति प्रथम प्रेम अनुमाना। चितइ पितहि दीन्हेउ दृढ़ ग्याना॥ ताते उमा मोच्छ नहिं पायो। दसरथ भेद भगति मन लायो॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

raghupati prathama prema anumānā। citai pitahi dīhneu dṛṛha gyānā॥ tāte umā moccha nahīṃ pāyo। dasaratha bheda bhagati mana lāyo॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

Raghupati, recalling the love of their earlier life, merely looked toward his father and granted him firm knowledge of his true nature. O Uma, Dasharatha had placed his mind in devotion marked by duality; therefore he did not attain liberation.

Chaupai

सगुनोपासक मोच्छ न लेहीं। तिन्ह कहुँ राम भगति निज देहीं॥ बार बार करि प्रभुहि प्रनामा। दसरथ हरषि गए सुरधामा॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

sagunopāsaka moccha na lehīṃ। tinh kahuṃ rāma bhagati nija dehīṃ॥ bāra bāra kari prabhuhi pranāmā। dasaratha haraṣi gae sura dhāmā॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

Devotees who worship the Lord in His manifested form, endowed with divine qualities and yet beyond illusion, do not seek such liberation. To them Rama grants His own devotion. Bowing again and again to the Lord with devoted intent, Dasharatha departed joyfully for the heavenly realm.

Doha

अनुज जानकी सहित प्रभु कुसल कोसलाधीस। सोभा देखि हरषि मन अस्तुति कर सुर ईस॥ ११२ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

anuja jānakī sahita prabhu kusala kosalādhīsa। sobhā dekhi haraṣi mana astuti kara sura īsa॥ 112 ॥

Meaning:

Seeing the splendor of the supremely auspicious Lord, the ruler of Kosala, together with Lakshmana and Janaki, Indra, the king of the gods, was filled with joy and began to offer praise.

जय राम सोभा धाम। दायक प्रनत बिश्राम॥ धृत त्रोन बर सर चाप। भुजदंड प्रबल प्रताप॥ १ ॥

jaya rāma sobhā dhāma। dāyaka pranata biśrāma॥ dhṛta trona bara sara cāpa। bhujadaṇḍa prabala pratāpa॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

Victory to Shri Ramchandra, the abode of splendor, the giver of rest to those who seek refuge, the one who bears the splendid quiver, bow, and arrows, and whose mighty arms shine with valour.

Chhand

जय दूषनारि खरारि। मर्दन निसाचर धारि॥ यह दुष्ट मारेउ नाथ। भए देव सकल सनाथ॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

jaya dūṣanāri kharāri। mardana nisācara dhāri॥ yaha duṣṭa māreu nātha। bhaye deva sakala sanātha॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

Victory to You, O enemy of Khara and Dushana, O one who crushes the hosts of demons! O Lord, You slew this wicked being, and thus all the gods became protected and secure.

Chhand

जय हरन धरनी भार। महिमा उदार अपार॥ जय रावनारि कृपाल। किए जातुधान बिहाल॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

jaya harana dharani bhāra। mahimā udāra apāra॥ jaya rāvanāri kṛpāla। ki'e jātudhāna bihāla॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

Victory to You, O remover of the burden of the earth, whose greatness is vast and generous! Victory to You, O enemy of Ravana, O merciful one! You made the demons miserable and helpless.

Chhand

लंकेस अति बल गर्ब। किए बस्य सुर गंधर्ब॥ मुनि सिद्ध नर खग नाग। हठि पंथ सब कें लाग॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

laṃkesa ati bala garba। ki'e basya sura gaṃdharba॥ muni siddha nara khaga nāga। haṭhi paṃtha saba keṃ lāga॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

The Lord of Lanka, Ravana, was filled with pride in his strength. He had brought gods and gandharvas under his control, and with stubborn force he pursued all—sages, perfected beings, humans, birds, and serpents.

Chhand

परद्रोह रत अति दुष्ट। पायो सो फलु पापिष्ट॥ अब सुनहु दीन दयाल। राजीव नयन बिसाल॥ ५ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

paradroha rata ati duṣṭa। pāyo so phalu pāpiṣṭa॥ aba sunahu dīna dayāla। rājīva nayana bisāla॥ 5 ॥

Meaning:

He was eager to harm others and was utterly wicked. That sinner received the very fruit of his deeds. Now, O merciful one to the lowly, O wide-eyed Lord with lotus-like eyes, please listen.

Chhand

मोहि रहा अति अभिमान। नहिं कोउ मोहि समान॥ अब देखि प्रभु पद कंज। गत मान प्रद दुख पुंज॥ ६ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

mohi rahā ati abhimāna। nahiṃ kou mohi samāna॥ aba dekhi prabhu pada kaṃja। gata māna prada dukha puṃja॥ 6 ॥

Meaning:

I was filled with great pride, thinking that none was equal to me; but now, having seen the lotus feet of the Lord, that pride which gave rise to a mass of suffering has departed.

Chhand

कोउ ब्रह्म निर्गुन ध्याव। अब्यक्त जेहि श्रुति गाव॥ मोहि भाव कोसल भूप। श्रीराम सगुन सरूप॥ ७ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kou brahma nirguna dhyāva। abyakta jehi śruti gāva॥ mohi bhāva kosala bhūpa। śrīrāma saguna sarūpa॥ 7 ॥

Meaning:

Some meditate on the attribute-less Brahman, whom the Vedas proclaim as unmanifest. But to me, O Ramji, Your manifest form as the King of Kosala is dear.

Chhand

बै‍देहि अनुज समेत। मम हृदयँ करहु निकेत॥ मोहि जानिऐ निज दास। दे भक्ति रमानिवास॥ ८ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

baidehi anuja sameta। mama hṛdayaṃ karahu niketa॥ mohi jāniai nija dāsa। de bhakti ramānivāsa॥ 8 ॥

Meaning:

With Sita and your younger brother together, make your home in my heart. O abode of Lakshmi, regard me as your servant and grant me devotion.

दे भक्ति रमानिवास त्रास हरन सरन सुखदायकं। सुख धाम राम नमामि काम अनेक छबि रघुनायकं॥ सुर बृंद रंजन द्वंद भंजन मनुजतनु अतुलितबलं। ब्रह्मादि संकर सेब्य राम नमामि करुना कोमलं॥

de bhakti ramānivāsa trāsa harana saraṇa sukhadāyakaṃ। sukha dhāma rāma namāmi kāma aneka chabi raghunāyakaṃ॥ sura bṛnda rañjana dvaṃda bhañjana manujatanu atulitabalaṃ। brahmādi saṃkara sevya rāma namāmi karunā komalaṃ॥

Meaning:

O abode of Lakshmi, giver of refuge and remover of fear, giver of bliss—grant me devotion. O Rama, abode of happiness, O Raghunayaka of many enchanting forms, I bow to You. O delight of the hosts of gods, destroyer of dualities, bearer of a human form, possessor of immeasurable strength, served by Brahma and Shankar, tender through compassion—Rama, I bow to You.

Doha

अब करि कृपा बिलोकि मोहि आयसु देहु कृपाल। काह करौं सुनि प्रिय बचन बोले दीनदयाल॥ ११३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

aba kari kṛpā biloki mohi āyasu dehu kṛpāla। kāha karauṃ suni priya bacana bole dīnadayāla॥ 113 ॥

Meaning:

O merciful Lord, now look upon me with grace and grant me your command—what am I to do? Hearing these dear words, the compassionate Lord spoke:

सुनु सुरपति कपि भालु हमारे। परे भूमि निसिचरन्हि जे मारे॥ मम हित लागि तजे इन्ह प्राना। सकल जिआउ सुरेस सुजाना॥ १ ॥

sunu surapati kapi bhālu hamāre। pare bhūmi nisicaranhi je māre॥ mama hita lāgi taje inha prānā। sakala jiaau sureśa sujānā॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

O king of the gods, listen: our monkeys and bears lie on the ground, slain by the demons. They gave up their lives for my sake. O wise lord of the gods, revive them all.

सुनु खगेस प्रभु कै यह बानी। अति अगाध जानहिं मुनि ग्यानी॥ प्रभु सक त्रिभुअन मारि जिआई। केवल सक्रहि दीन्हि बड़ाई॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

sunu khagesa prabhu kai yaha bānī। ati agādha jānahiṃ muni gyānī॥ prabhu saka tribhuana māri jiaī। kevala sakrahi dīnhi baṛāī॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

O lord of birds, listen: these words of the Lord are profoundly mysterious. Only wise sages can understand them. The Lord can kill and revive the three worlds; here He has merely bestowed honor upon Indra.

Chaupai

सुधा बरषि कपि भालु जिआए। हरषि उठे सब प्रभु पहिं आए॥ सुधाबृष्टि भै दुहु दल ऊपर। जिए भालु कपि नहिं रजनीचर॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

sudhā baraṣi kapi bhālu jiae। haraṣi uṭhe saba prabhu pahiṃ āe॥ sudhābṛṣṭi bhai duhu dala ūpara। jie bhālu kapi nahiṃ rajanīcara॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

Indra rained down nectar and revived the monkeys and bears. All rose up rejoicing and came before the Lord. The shower of nectar fell upon both armies, but only the bears and monkeys lived; the demons did not.

रामाकार भए तिन्ह के मन। मुक्त भए छूटे भव बंधन॥ सुर अंसिक सब कपि अरु रीछा। जिए सकल रघुपति कीं ईछा॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

rāmākāra bhae tinh ke mana। mukta bhae chūṭe bhava baṃdhana॥ sura aṃsika saba kapi aru rīchā। jie sakala raghupati kīṃ īchā॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

Since the minds of those demons had become shaped like Rama at the moment of death, they attained liberation and were freed from the bonds of existence. But the monkeys and bears were all divine portions, and therefore they were brought back to life by Shri Raghupati's will.

राम सरिस को दीन हितकारी। कीन्हे मुकुत निसाचर झारी॥ खल मल धाम कामरत रावन। गति पाई जो मुनिबर पाव न॥ ५ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

rāma sarisa ko dīna hitakārī। kīnhē mukuta nisācara jhārī॥ khala mala dhāma kāmarata rāvana। gati pāī jo munibara pāva na॥ 5 ॥

Meaning:

Who is there like Shri Ramchandra, the benefactor of the humble? He freed the host of demons! Even Ravana, the abode of evil and sin and full of desire, attained a state that even the greatest sages do not attain.

सुमन बरषि सब सुर चले चढ़ि चढ़ि रुचिर बिमान। देखि सुअवसर प्रभु पहिं आयउ संभु सुजान॥ ११४ (क) ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

suman baraṣi saba sura cale caḍhi caḍhi rucira bimāna। dekhi suavasara prabhu pahiṃ āyau saṃbhu sujāna॥ 114 (a) ॥

Meaning:

After showering flowers, all the gods departed, mounting their lovely celestial chariots. Then, recognizing the opportune moment, wise Shiva came before Lord Shri Ramchandra.

परम प्रीति कर जोरि जुग नलिन नयन भरि बारि। पुलकिततनगदगदगिराँबिनय करत त्रिपुरारि॥ ११४ (ख) ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

parama prīti kara jori juga nalina nayana bhari bāri। pulakita tana gadagada girāṃ binaya karata tripurāri॥ 114 (b) ॥

Meaning:

With supreme love, Shiva joined his hands, his lotus-like eyes filled with tears. His body thrilled with devotion, and with a choked voice, Tripurari began to pray.

मामभिरक्षय रघुकुल नायक। धृत बर चाप रुचिर कर सायक॥ मोह महा घन पटल प्रभंजन। संसय बिपिन अनल सुर रंजन॥ १ ॥

mām abhirakṣaya raghukula nāyaka। dhṛta bara cāpa ruchira kara sāyaka॥ moha mahā ghana paṭala prabhañjana। saṃsaya bipina anala sura rañjana॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

O Lord of the Raghu lineage, protect me. You bear the splendid bow and lovely arrows in your graceful hands. You are the storm that scatters the great cloud-bank of delusion, the fire that burns the forest of doubt, and the delight of the gods.

Chhand

अगुन सगुन गुन मंदिर सुंदर। भ्रम तम प्रबल प्रताप दिवाकर॥ काम क्रोध मद गज पंचानन। बसहु निरंतर जन मन कानन॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

aguna saguna guna maṃdira suṃdara। bhrama tama prabala pratāpa divākara॥ kāma krodha mada gaja paṃcānana। basahu niraṃtara jana mana kānana॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

You are beyond qualities and also endowed with qualities, the beautiful abode of virtues. You are like the sun of mighty splendor that dispels the darkness of illusion. Like a lion against the elephants of lust, anger, and pride, dwell forever in the forest of this servant's mind.

Chhand

बिषय मनोरथ पुंज कंज बन। प्रबल तुषार उदार पार मन॥ भव बारिधि मंदर परमं दर। बारय तारय संसृति दुस्तर॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

biṣaya manoratha puṃja kaṃja bana। prabala tuṣāra udāra pāra mana॥ bhava bāridhi maṃdara paramaṃ dara। bāraya tāraya saṃsṛti duṣṭara॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

For the lotus forest made of worldly desires, You are the powerful frost. You are generous and beyond the mind. For churning the ocean of existence, You are Mount Mandara. Remove our great fear and carry us across the difficult sea of worldly life.

Chhand

स्याम गात राजीव बिलोचन। दीन बंधु प्रनतारति मोचन॥ अनुज जानकी सहित निरंतर। बसहु राम नृप मम उर अंतर॥ मुनि रंजन महि मंडल मंडन। तुलसिदास प्रभु त्रास बिखंडन॥ ४-५ ॥

śyāma gāta rājīva bilochana। dīna baṃdhu pranatārati mochana॥ anuja jānakī sahita niraṃtara। basahu rāma nṛpa mama ura aṃtara॥ muni rañjana mahi maṃḍala maṃḍana। tulasidāsa prabhu trāsa bikhaṃḍana॥ 4-5 ॥

Meaning:

O dark-hued Lord with lotus eyes, friend of the lowly, remover of the suffering of those who seek refuge! O King Rama, dwell forever in the inner chamber of my heart together with Lakshmana and Janaki. You delight the sages, adorn the world, are the Lord of Tulsidas, and destroy all fear.

Doha

नाथ जबहिं कोसलपुरीं होइहि तिलक तुम्हार। कृपासिंधु मैं आउब देखन चरित उदार॥ ११५ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

nātha jabahiṃ kosalapurīṃ hoihi tilaka tumhāra। kṛpāsiṃdhu maiṃ āuba dekhan carita udāra॥ 115 ॥

Meaning:

O Lord, when your coronation takes place in the city of Kosala, then, O ocean of mercy, I shall come to behold your noble deeds.
