प्रभु बिलोकि मुनि मन अनुरागा। तुरत दिब्य सिंघासन मागा॥ रबि सम तेज सो बरनि न जाई। बैठे राम द्विजन्ह सिरु नाई॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
prabhu biloki muni mana anurāgā। turata dibya siṃghāsana māgā॥ rabi sama teja so barani na jāī। baiṭhe rāma dvijanha siru nāī॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Seeing the Lord, Sage Vasistha’s heart was filled with love. He immediately asked for a divine throne, whose radiance was like that of the sun. Its splendor could not be described. Bowing to the Brahmins, Shri Ram sat upon it.
जनकसुता समेत रघुराई। पेखि प्रहरषे मुनि समुदाई॥ बेद मंत्र तब द्विजन्ह उचारे। नभ सुर मुनि जय जयति पुकारे॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
janakasutā sameta raghurāī। pekhi praharaṣe muni samudāī॥ beda maṃtra taba dvijanha ucāre। nabha sura muni jaya jayati pukāre॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Seeing Shri Janaki together with Shri Raghunath, the assembly of sages became greatly delighted. Then the Brahmins recited the Vedic mantras. In the sky, gods and sages cried out, “Victory, victory!”
प्रथम तिलक बसिष्ट मुनि कीन्हा। पुनि सब बिप्रन्ह आयसु दीन्हा॥ सुत बिलोकि हरषीं महतारी। बार बार आरती उतारी॥ ३ ॥

prathama tilaka basiṣṭa muni kīnhā। puni saba bipranha āyasu dīnhā॥ suta biloki haraṣīṃ mahatārī। bāra bāra āratī utārī॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
First Sage Vasistha performed the tilak. Then he gave all the Brahmins permission to do the tilak. Seeing the son seated on the throne, the mothers were filled with joy and waved the lamp again and again.
बिप्रन्ह दान बिबिधि बिधि दीन्हे। जाचक सकल अजाचक कीन्हे॥ सिंघासन पर त्रिभुअन साईं। देखि सुरन्ह दुंदुभीं बजाईं॥ ४ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
bipranha dāna bibidhi bidhi dīnhe। jācaka sakala ajācaka kīnhe॥ siṃghāsana para tribhuana sāīṃ। dekhi suranha duṃdubhīṃ bajāīṃ॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
They gave the Brahmins many kinds of gifts and made all beggars into non-beggars, that is, prosperous. Seeing Shri Ram, Lord of the three worlds, seated on the throne, the gods sounded the kettledrums.
नभ दुंदुभीं बाजहिं बिपुल गंधर्ब किंनर गावहीं। नाचहिं अपछरा बृंद परमानंद सुर मुनि पावहीं॥ भरतादि अनुज बिभीषनांगद हनुमदादि समेत ते। गहें छत्र चामर ब्यजन धनु असि चर्म सक्ति बिराजते॥ १ ॥

nabha duṃdubhīṃ bājahiṃ bipula gaṃdharba kinnara gāvahīṃ। nācahiṃ apacharā bṛnda paramānanda sura muni pāvahīṃ॥ bharatādi anuja bibhīṣanāṃgada hanumadādi sameta te। gaheṃ chatra cāmara byajana dhanu asi carma sakti birājate॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
In the sky, many kettledrums are sounding. Gandharvas and Kinnaras are singing. Companies of celestial nymphs are dancing. Gods and sages are experiencing supreme bliss. Bharata and the other younger brothers, along with Vibhishana, Angada, Hanuman, and others, are resplendent while holding the umbrella, chowrie, fan, bow, sword, shield, and spear.
श्री सहित दिनकर बंस भूषन काम बहु छबि सोहई। नव अंबुधर बर गात अंबर पीत सुर मन मोहई॥ मुकुटांगदादि बिचित्र भूषन अंग अंगन्हि प्रति सजे। अंभोज नयन बिसाल उर भुज धन्य नर निरखंति जे॥ २ ॥

śrī sahita dinakara baṃsa bhūṣana kāma bahu chabi sohaī। nava aṃbudhara bara gāta aṃbara pīta sura mana mohaī॥ mukuṭāṃgadādi bicitra bhūṣana aṃga aṃganhi prati saje। aṃbhoja nayana bisāla ura bhuja dhanya nara nirikhaṃti je॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
With Shri Sita, the ornament of the सूर्यवंश, Shri Ram’s body shines with countless beauties, as though of many Kamas. His beautiful dark body, like fresh rain-clouds, is adorned with a yellow garment that enchants even the gods’ minds. Crowns, armlets, and other wondrous ornaments grace every limb. His eyes are like lotuses, his chest is broad, and his arms are long; blessed are the people who behold Him.
वह सोभा समाज सुख कहत न बनइ खगेस। बरनहिं सारद सेष श्रुति सो रस जान महेस॥ १२ (क) ॥

vaha sobhā samāja sukha kahata na banai khagesa। baranhiṃ sārada seṣa śruti so rasa jāna mahesa॥ 12 (a) ॥
Meaning:
O king of birds, Garuda, that splendor, that assembly, and that bliss cannot be spoken of by me. Saraswati, Shesha, and the Vedas keep describing it, and only Mahadev knows its essence.
भिन्न भिन्न अस्तुति करि गए सुर निज निज धाम। बंदी बेष बेद तब आए जहँ श्रीराम॥ १२ (ख) ॥

bhinna bhinna astuti kari gae sura nija nija dhāma। baṃdī beṣa beda taba āe jahaṃ śrīrāma॥ 12 (b) ॥
Meaning:
After offering separate praises, all the gods went to their respective abodes. Then the four Vedas came there where Shri Ram was, disguised as bards.
प्रभु सर्बग्य कीन्ह अति आदर कृपानिधान। लखेउ न काहूँ मरम कछु लगे करन गुन गान॥ १२ (ग) ॥

prabhu sarbagya kīnha ati ādara kṛpānidhāna। lakheu na kāhūṃ marama kachu lage karana guna gāna॥ 12 (c) ॥
Meaning:
The all-knowing Lord, the ocean of mercy, showed them great honor. No one understood this secret at all. The Vedas began singing His praises.
जय सगुन निर्गुन रूप रूप अनूप भूप सिरोमने। दसकंधरादि प्रचंड निसिचर प्रबल खल भुजबल हने॥ अवतार नर संसार भार बिभंजि दारुन दुख दहे। जय प्रनतपाल दयाल प्रभु संजुक्त सक्ति नमामहे॥ १ ॥

jaya saguna nirguna rūpa rūpa anūpa bhūpa siromaṇe। dasakandharādi pracaṃḍa nisichara prabala khala bhujabala hane॥ avatāra nara saṃsāra bhāra bibhaji dāruna dukha dahe। jaya pranatapāla dayāla prabhu saṃjukta sacti namāmahe॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Victory to you, O Lord who are both with form and without form, whose form is incomparable, the crest-jewel of kings! You destroyed the fierce, powerful, evil demons led by the ten-headed Ravana by the strength of your arms. Taking a human incarnation, you removed the burden of the world and burned up terrible suffering. Victory to you, compassionate Lord and protector of those who seek refuge! I bow to you, the Powerful One, together with Shakti (Sita).
तव बिषम माया बस सुरासुर नाग नर अग जग हरे। भव पंथ भ्रमत अमित दिवस निसि काल कर्म गुननि भरे॥ जे नाथ करि करुना बिलोके त्रिबिधि दुख ते निर्बहे। भव खेद छेदन दच्छ हम कहुँ रच्छ राम नमामहे॥ २ ॥

tava biṣama māyā basa surāsura nāga nara aga jaga hare। bhava pantha bhramata amita divasa nisi kāla karma gunani bhare॥ je nātha kari karunā biloke tribidhi dukha te nirbahe। bhava kheda chedana daccha hama kahuṃ raccha rāma namāmahe॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
O Hari! Because of being under the control of your unfathomable Maya, gods, demons, serpents, humans, and the moving and unmoving worlds wander day and night on the endless path of rebirth, laden with time, karma, and the gunas. O Lord, those whom you have graciously looked upon are freed from the three kinds of suffering. O Shri Ram, skilled in destroying the weariness of worldly existence, protect us. We bow to you.
जे ग्यान मान बिमत्त तव भव हरनि भक्ति न आदरी। ते पाइ सुर दुर्लभ पदादपि परत हम देखत हरी॥ बिस्वास करि सब आस परिहरि दास तव जे होइ रहे। जपि नाम तव बिनु श्रम तरहिं भव नाथ सो समरामहे॥ ३ ॥

je gyāna māna bimatta tava bhava harani bhakti na ādarī। te pāi sura durlabha padādi pi parata hama dekhata harī॥ bisvāsa kari saba āsa parihari dāsa tava je hoi rahe। japi nāma tava binu śrama tarahiṃ bhava nātha so samarāmahe॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
Those who, intoxicated by the pride of false knowledge, did not honor your bhakti, which removes the fear of birth and death—O Hari, even after attaining positions difficult for the gods to obtain, we see them fall from those heights. But those who abandon all hopes and trust in you, remaining your servants, cross the ocean of worldly existence without effort by chanting only your name. O Lord, thus do we remember you.
जे चरन सिव अज पूज्य रज सुभ परसि मुनिपतिनी तरी। नख निर्गता मुनि बंदिता त्रैलोक पावनि सुरसरी॥ ध्वज कुलिस अंकुस कंज जुत बन फिरत कंटक किन लहे। पद कंज द्वंद मुकुंद राम रमेस नित्य भजामहे॥ ४ ॥

je carana siva aja pūjya raja subha parasi munipatinī tarī। nakha nirgatā muni banditā trailoka pāvani surasarī॥ dhvaja kulisa aṃkusa kaṃja juta bana phirata kaṃṭaka kina lahe। pada kaṃja dvanda maukaund rāma ramesa nitya bhajāmahe॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Those feet that are worshipped by Shiva and Brahma, whose auspicious dust touched the stone-form Ahalya and delivered her; from whose nails flowed the sacred Ganga, praised by sages and purifying the three worlds; and on which, marked with the emblems of banner, thunderbolt, goad, and lotus, the signs of thorns appeared while wandering in the forest—O Mukunda, O Rama, O Ramesha, we ever worship those two lotus feet.
अब्यक्तमूलमनादि तरु त्वच चारि निगमागम भने। षट कंध साखा पंच बीस अनेक पर्न सुमन घने॥ फल जुगल बिधि कटु मधुर बेलि अकेलि जेहि आश्रित रहे। पल्लवत फूलत नवल नित संसार बिटप नमामहे॥ ५ ॥

abhyaktamūlamanādi taru tvaca cāri nigamāgama bhane। ṣaṭ kaṃdha sākhā paṃca bīsa aneka parna sumana ghane॥ phala jugala bidhi kaṭu madhura beli akeli jehi āśrita rahe। pallavata phūlata nava la nita saṃsāra biṭapa namāmahe॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
The Vedas and scriptures say that its root is the unmanifest (Prakriti); that it is beginningless in its flow; that it has four layers of bark, six trunks, twenty-five branches, countless leaves, and many flowers; that it bears two kinds of fruit, bitter and sweet; that there is a single vine depending upon it; and that new leaves and flowers keep appearing on it continually. We bow to you in the form of that world-tree (manifested in the universal form).
जे ब्रह्म अजमद्वैतमनुभवगम्य मन पर ध्यावहीं। ते कहहुँ जानहुँ नाथ हम तव सगुन जस नित गावहीं॥ करुनायतन प्रभु सदगुनाकर देव यह बर मागहीं। मन बचन कर्म बिकार तजि तव चरन हम अनुरागहीं॥ ६ ॥

je brahma ajam advaitam anubhavagamya mana para dhyāvahīṃ। te kahahuṃ jānahuṃ nātha hama tava saguna jasa nita gāvahīṃ॥ karunāyatana prabhu sadagunākara deva yaha bara māgahīṃ। mana bacana karma bikāra taji tava carana hama anurāgahīṃ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning:
Brahman is unborn, non-dual, known only through direct experience, and beyond the mind—those who meditate on Brahman in this way may speak and know thus; but, O Lord, we continually sing only your manifest glories. O abode of compassion, O Lord, treasure-house of virtues, O divine One, this is the boon we ask: that, renouncing all blemishes of mind, speech, and action, we may love your feet alone.
सब के देखत बेदन्ह बिनती कीन्हि उदार। अंतर्धान भए पुनि गए ब्रह्म आगार॥ १३ (क) ॥

saba ke dekhata bedanha binatī kīnhi udāra। antaradhāna bhae puni gae brahma ākāra॥ 13 (a) ॥
Meaning:
In the sight of all, the Vedas offered this noble prayer. Then they disappeared and went to the realm of Brahma.
बैनतेय सुनु संभु तब आए जहँ रघुबीर। बिनय करत गदगद गिरा पूरित पुलक सरीर॥ १३ (ख) ॥

bainateya sunu saṃbhu taba āe jahaṃ raghubīra। binaya karata gadgada girā pūrita pulaka sarīra॥ 13 (b) ॥
Meaning:
[Kakabhushundi says—] O Garuda, listen: then Shiva came to where Shri Raghubir was and began to offer praise in a choked, emotional voice. His body became entirely covered with horripilation.
जय राम रमारमनं समनं। भवताप भयाकुल पाहि जनं॥ अवधेस सुरेस रमेस बिभो। सरनागत मागत पाहि प्रभो॥ १ ॥

jaya rāma ramāramanaṃ samanaṃ। bhavatāpa bhayākula pāhi janaṃ॥ avadhesa suresa ramesa bibho। saranāgata māgata pāhi prabho॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Victory to Rama, the delight of Rama (Lakshmi), the remover of all afflictions! Hail to you; protect this distressed being, troubled by the heat of worldly suffering and fear. O Lord of Ayodhya, Lord of the gods, Lord of Lakshmi, O all-pervading One! I, a refugee, ask only this: O Lord, protect me.
दससीस बिनासन बीस भुजा। कृत दूरि महा महि भूरि रुजा॥ रजनीचर बृंद पतंग रहे। सर पावक तेज प्रचंड दहे॥ २ ॥

dasasīsa bināsana bīsa bhujā। kṛta dūri mahā mahi bhūri rujā॥ rajanīcara bṛnda pataṃga rahe। sara pāvaka teja pracaṇḍa dahe॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
O Rama, destroyer of the ten-headed Ravana and the twenty-armed one, who removed the world's great afflictions! The host of demons was like a swarm of moths; all were burned by the fierce blaze of your arrows, like fire.
महि मंडल मंडन चारुतरं। धृत सायक चाप निषंग बरं॥ मद मोह महा ममता रजनी। तम पुंज दिवाकर तेज अनी॥ ३ ॥

mahi maṇḍala maṇḍana cārutaraṃ। dhṛta sāyaka cāpa niṣaṅga varaṃ॥ mada moha mahā mamatā rajanī। tama puñja divākara teja anī॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
You are the most beautiful ornament of the earth; you bear the excellent arrow, bow, and quiver. To destroy the darkness of the great night of pride, delusion, and possessiveness, you are like the blazing rays of the sun.
मनजात किरात निपात किए। मृग लोग कुभोग सरेन हिए॥ हति नाथ अनाथनि पाहि हरे। बिषया बन पावँर भूलि परे॥ ४ ॥

manajāta kirāta nipāta kie। mṛga loga kubhoga saren hie॥ hati nātha anāthani pāhi hare। biṣayā bana pāvaṃra bhūli pare॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
The hunter born of desire has struck the hearts of human deer with arrows of evil tendencies and brought them down. O Lord! O Hara, who remove suffering, destroy him and protect these wretched, helpless beings lost in the forest of the senses.
बहु रोग बियोगन्हि लोग हए। भवदंघ्रि निरादर के फल ए॥ भव सिंधु अगाध परे नर ते। पद पंकज प्रेम न जे करते॥ ५ ॥

bahu roga biyoganhī loga hae। bhavadāṃghri nirādara ke phala e॥ bhava sindhu agādha pare nara te। pada paṃkaja prema na je karate॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
People are afflicted by many illnesses and separations; these are the fruits of disrespect to your feet. Those who do not love your lotus feet fall into the unfathomable ocean of worldly existence.
अति दीन मलीन दुखी नितहीं। जिन्ह कें पद पंकज प्रीति नहीं॥ अवलंब भवंत कथा जिन्ह कें। प्रिय संत अनंत सदा तिन्ह कें॥ ६ ॥

ati dīna malīna dukhī nitahīṃ। jinh keṃ pada paṃkaja prīti nahīṃ॥ avalamba bhavaṃta kathā jinh keṃ। priya santa anaṃta sadā tinh keṃ॥ 6 ॥
Meaning:
Those who do not have love for your lotus feet remain ever poor, impure, and sorrowful. And those who take refuge in your story become dear to saints and to the Lord forever.
नहिं राग न लोभ न मान मदा। तिन्ह कें सम बैभव वा बिपदा॥ एहि ते तव सेवक होत मुदा। मुनि त्यागत जोग भरोस सदा॥ ७ ॥

nahiṃ rāga na lobha na māna madā। tinh keṃ sama baibhava vā bipadā॥ ehi te tava sevaka hota mudā। muni tyāgata joga bharosa sadā॥ 7 ॥
Meaning:
In them there is neither attachment nor greed, neither pride nor intoxication. For them, prosperity and adversity are the same. Therefore the sages abandon reliance on yoga as the means and, with joy, become your servants.
करि प्रेम निरंतर नेम लिएँ। पद पंकज सेवत सुद्ध हिएँ॥ सम मानि निरादर आदरही। सब संत सुखी बिचरंति मही॥ ८ ॥

kari prema nirantara nema lieṃ। pada paṃkaja sevata suddha hieṃ॥ sama māni nirādara ādarahī। saba santa sukhī bicaraṃti mahī॥ 8 ॥
Meaning:
Taking vows with love, they continually serve your lotus feet with pure hearts. Considering honor and dishonor alike, all such saints wander happily over the earth.
मुनि मानस पंकज भृंग भजे। रघुबीर महा रनधीर अजे॥ तव नाम जपामि नमामि हरी। भव रोग महागद मान अरी॥ ९ ॥

muni mānasa paṃkaja bhṛṅga bhaje। raghubīra mahā ranadhīra aje॥ tava nāma japāmi namāmi harī। bhava roga mahāgada māna arī॥ 9 ॥
Meaning:
O bee of the lotus of the sages' minds! O great hero in battle, O unconquerable Raghubīra! I worship you. I chant your name and bow to you, O Hari. You are the great medicine for the disease of worldly existence and the enemy of pride.
गुन सील कृपा परमायतनं। प्रनमामि निरंतर श्रीरमनं॥ रघुनंद निकंदय द्वंद्वघनं। महिपाल बिलोकय दीनजनं॥ १० ॥

guna sīla kṛpā paramāyatanaṃ। praṇamāmi nirantara śrīramanaṃ॥ raghunanda nikandaya dvandvaghanaṃ। mahipāla bilokaya dīnajanaṃ॥ 10 ॥
Meaning:
You are the supreme abode of virtue, character, and compassion. I bow to the Beloved of Lakshmi without ceasing. O Raghunandana, destroy the mass of dualities; O protector of the earth, look upon this lowly being.
बार बार बर मागउँ हरषि देहु श्रीरंग। पद सरोज अनपायनी भगति सदा सतसंग॥ १४ (क) ॥

bāra bāra bara māgauṃ harṣi dehu śrīraṃga। pada saroja anapāyanī bhagati sadā satsaṃga॥ 14 (a) ॥
Meaning:
Again and again I ask for this boon: graciously give me steadfast devotion to your lotus feet and constant fellowship with the saints, O Lord of Sri (Lakshmi).
बरनि उमापति राम गुन हरषि गए कैलास। तब प्रभु कपिन्ह दिवाए सब बिधि सुखप्रद बास॥ १४ (ख) ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
barani umāpati rāma guna harṣi gae kailāsa। taba prabhu kapinha divāe saba bidhi sukhaprada bāsa॥ 14 (b) ॥
Meaning:
After praising the virtues of Rama, the Lord of Uma, Shiva, returned to Kailasa in joy. Then the Lord arranged lodgings for the monkeys in every way, making them fully comfortable.
सुनु खगपति यह कथा पावनी। त्रिबिध ताप भव भय दावनी॥ महाराज कर सुभ अभिषेका। सुनत लहहिं नर बिरति बिबेका॥ १ ॥

suni khagapati yaha kathā pāvanī। tribidha tāpa bhava bhaya dāvanī॥ mahārāja kara subha abhiṣekā। sunata lahahiṃ nara birati bibekā॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Listen, O lord of birds: this tale is holy, and it burns away the three kinds of suffering and the fear of worldly existence. Hearing of the auspicious consecration of the king, people attain dispassion and discernment.
जे सकाम नर सुनहिं जे गावहिं। सुख संपति नाना बिधि पावहिं॥ सुर दुर्लभ सुख करि जग माहीं। अंतकाल रघुपति पुर जाहीं॥ २ ॥

je sakāma nara sunahiṃ je gāvahiṃ। sukha saṃpati nānā bidhi pāvahiṃ॥ sura durlabha sukha kari jaga māhīṃ। anta kāla raghupati pura jāhīṃ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Those who hear it with desire and those who sing it gain wealth and many kinds of happiness. They enjoy delights rarely attained even by the gods and, at the end of life, go to Raghupati's abode.
सुनहिं बिमुक्त बिरत अरु बिषई। लहहिं भगति गति संपति नई॥ खगपति राम कथा मैं बरनी। स्वमति बिलास त्रास दुख हरनी॥ ३ ॥

sunahiṃ bimukta birata aru biṣaī। lahahiṃ bhagati gati saṃpati naī॥ khagapati rāma kathā maiṃ baranī। svamati bilāsa trāsa dukha haranī॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
Those who are liberated, detached, or even worldly-minded hear it and gain devotion, liberation, and a new abundance. O lord of birds, I have described Rama's story according to my own understanding; it removes fear and sorrow.
बिरति बिबेक भगति दृढ़ करनी। मोह नदी कहँ सुंदर तरनी॥ नित नव मंगल कौसलपुरी। हरषित रहहिं लोग सब कुरी॥ ४ ॥

birati bibeka bhagati dṛḍha karanī। moha nadī kahaṃ sundara taranī॥ nita nava maṅgala kausalapurī। harṣita rahahiṃ loga saba kurī॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
It strengthens dispassion, discernment, and devotion, and it is a beautiful boat for crossing the river of delusion. In Kausalya's city there are ever-new festivals, and all the people remain joyful.
नित नइ प्रीति राम पद पंकज। सब कें जिन्हहि नमत सिव मुनि अज॥ मंगन बहु प्रकार पहिराए। द्विजन्ह दान नाना बिधि पाए॥ ५ ॥

nita nai prīti rāma pada paṃkaja। saba keṃ jinhahi namata siva muni aja॥ maṃgana bahu prakāra pahirāe। dvijanha dāna nānā bidhi pāe॥ 5 ॥

There is ever-fresh love for Rama's lotus feet in everyone—at whom Shiva, the sages, and Brahma themselves bow. Beggars were dressed in many ways, and the Brahmins received gifts in many forms.
ब्रह्मानंद मगन कपि सब कें प्रभु पद प्रीति। जात न जाने दिवस तिन्ह गए मास षट बीति॥ १५ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
brahmānanda magana kapi saba keṃ prabhu pada prīti। jāta na jāne divasa tinh gae māsa ṣaṭ bīti॥ 15 ॥
Meaning:
All the monkeys are absorbed in Brahmananda, and all have love for the Lord's feet! They did not even notice the passing of the days, and six months passed in a moment.
