Rama Marches with the Vanara Army to the Ocean Shore
After receiving news of Sita, Rama sets out toward Lanka with the vanara army. In due course, they arrive at the ocean shore and prepare for the next step.

प्रभु पद पंकज नावहिं सीसा। गर्जहिं भालु महाबल कीसा॥ देखी राम सकल कपि सेना। चितइ कृपा करि राजिव नैना॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
prabhu pada paṃkaja nāvahiṃ sīsā। garjahiṃ bhālu mahābala kīsā॥ dekhī rāma sakala kapi senā। citai kṛpā kari rājiva nainā॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
They bow their heads to the Lord's lotus feet. Greatly powerful bears and monkeys are roaring. Seeing the entire army of monkeys, Rama cast His lotus eyes upon them with compassion.
राम कृपा बल पाइ कपिंदा। भए पच्छजुत मनहुँ गिरिंदा॥ हरषि राम तब कीन्ह पयाना। सगुन भए सुंदर सुभ नाना॥ २ ॥

rāma kṛpā bala pāi kapindā। bhae pacchajuta manahuṃ giriṃdā॥ harashi rāma taba kīnha payānā। saguna bhae sundara subha nānā॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Gaining strength from Rama's grace, the chief monkeys became like great winged mountains. Then Rama set out in joy, and many beautiful and auspicious signs appeared.
जासु सकल मंगलमय कीती। तासु पयान सगुन यह नीती॥ प्रभु पयान जाना बैदेहीं। फरकि बाम अँग जनु कहि देहीं॥ ३ ॥

jāsu sakala maṃgalamaya kītī। tāsu payāna saguna yaha nītī॥ prabhu payāna jānā baidehīṃ। pharaka bāma aṅga janu kahi dehīṃ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
For one whose glory is wholly filled with auspiciousness, omens at the time of departure are only fitting. Sita too knew of the Lord's departure. Her left limbs twitched again and again as if announcing, Rama is coming.
जोइ जोइ सगुन जानकिहि होई। असगुन भयउ रावनहि सोई॥ चला कटकु को बरनैं पारा। गर्जहिं बानर भालु अपारा॥ ४ ॥

joi joi saguna jānakihi hoī। asaguna bhayau rāvanahi soī॥ calā kaṭaku ko baranaiṃ pārā। garjahiṃ bānara bhālu apārā॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Whatever omens were favorable for Janaki became omens of ill fortune for Ravana. The army marched forth—who can describe it? Countless monkeys and bears were roaring.
नख आयुध गिरि पादपधारी। चले गगन महि इच्छाचारी॥ केहरिनाद भालु कपि करहीं। डगमगाहिं दिग्गज चिक्करहीं॥ ५ ॥

nakha āyudha giri pādapadhārī। cale gagana mahi icchācārī॥ keharināda bhālu kapi karahīṃ। ḍagamagāhĩ diggaja cikkarahīṃ॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
Their nails were their weapons; bearing mountains and trees, they moved wherever they wished, some through the sky and some across the earth. They roared like lions, and the elephants of the directions trembled and trumpeted.
चिक्करहिं दिग्गज डोल महि गिरि लोल सागर खरभरे। मन हरष सभ गंधर्ब सुर मुनि नाग किंनर दुख टरे॥ कटकटहिं मर्कट बिकट भट बहु कोटि कोटिन्ह धावहीं। जय राम प्रबल प्रताप कोसलनाथ गुन गन गावहीं॥ १ ॥

cikkarahiṃ diggaja ḍola mahi giri lola sāgara kharabhare। mana harasha sabha gaṃdharba sura muni nāga kinnara dukha ṭare॥ kaṭakaṭahiṃ markaṭa bikaṭa bhaṭa bahu koṭi koṭinha dhāvahīṃ। jaya rāma prabala pratāpa kosalanātha guna gana gāvahīṃ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
The elephants of the directions trumpeted, the earth shook, the mountains swayed, and the sea churned. Gandharvas, gods, sages, serpents, and kinnaras all rejoiced in heart, thinking their sorrows had ended. Countless fierce monkey-warriors clenched their teeth, and millions rushed ahead, singing the praises of Rama: Victory to Rama, to the mighty Lord of Kosala.
सहि सक न भार उदार अहिपति बार बारहिं मोहई। गह दसन पुनि पुनि कमठ पृष्ट कठोर सो किमि सोहई॥ रघुबीर रुचिर प्रयान प्रस्थिति जानि परम सुहावनी। जनु कमठ खर्पर सर्पराज सो लिखत अबिचल पावनी॥ २ ॥

sahi saka na bhāra udāra ahipati bāra bārāhĩ mohai। gaha dasana puni puni kamaṭha pṛṣṭha kaṭhora so kimi sohai॥ raghubīra rucira prayāna prasthiti jāni parama suhāvanī। janu kamaṭha kharpara sarparāja so likhata abicala pāvanī॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Even noble Shesha, the king of serpents, cannot bear the burden of the army; again and again he is overwhelmed, and again and again he bites the tortoise's hard back. How beautifully this appears, as though, finding Rama's lovely march supremely delightful, the serpent king were writing its steadfast and sacred story upon the tortoise's shell.
एहि बिधि जाइ कृपानिधि उतरे सागर तीर। जहँ तहँ लागे खान फल भालु बिपुल कपि बीर॥ ३५ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
ehi bidhi jāi kṛpānidhi utare sāgara tīra। jahaṃ tahaṃ lāge khāna phala bhālu bipula kapi bīra॥ 35 ॥
Meaning:
In this way the treasure of compassion, Rama, came and descended on the shore of the sea. Everywhere the bears and the mighty monkeys began eating fruit.
