अस कौतुक बिलोकि द्वौ भाई। बिहँसि चले कृपाल रघुराई॥ सेन सहित उतरे रघुबीरा। कहि न जाइ कपि जूथप भीरा॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
Asa kautuka biloki dvau bhāī। Bihasi cale kṛpāla raghurāī॥ Sena sahita utare raghubīrā। Kahi na jāi kapi jūthapa bhīrā॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Seeing such a wondrous sight, the two brothers went on smiling. Raghubira crossed over with his army. The crowd of monkeys and their leaders cannot be described.
सिंधु पार प्रभु डेरा कीन्हा। सकल कपिन्ह कहुँ आयसु दीन्हा॥ खाहु जाइ फल मूल सुहाए। सुनत भालु कपि जहँ तहँ धाए॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
Sindhu pāra prabhu ḍerā kīnhā। Sakala kapinha kahuṃ āyasu dīnhā॥ Khāhu jāi phala mūla suhāe। Sunata bhālu kapi jahaṃ tahaṃ dhāe॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
The Lord pitched camp across the ocean and gave command to all the monkeys: Go and eat the lovely fruits and roots. Hearing this, bears and monkeys ran off in every direction.
सब तरु फरे राम हित लागी। रितु अरु कुरितु काल गति त्यागी॥ खाहिं मधुर फल बिटप हलावहिं। लंका सन्मुख सिखर चलावहिं॥ ३ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
Saba taru phare rāma hita lāgī। Ritu aru kuritu kāla gati tyāgī॥ Khāhiṃ madhura phala biṭapa halāvahiṃ। Laṃkā sanmukha sikhara calāvahiṃ॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
All the trees bore fruit for Rama's sake, setting aside the seasons and the movement of time. The monkeys and bears ate sweet fruits, shook the trees, and hurled the mountain peaks toward Lanka.
जहँ कहुँ फिरत निसाचर पावहिं। घेरि सकल बहु नाच नचावहिं॥ दसनन्हि काटि नासिका काना। कहि प्रभु सुजसु देहिं तब जाना॥ ४ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
Jahaṃ kahuṃ phirata nisācara pāvahiṃ। Gheri sakala bahu nāca nacāvahiṃ॥ Dasananhi kāṭi nāsikā kānā। Kahi prabhu sujasa dehiṃ taba jānā॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Wherever they roamed and found a demon, they surrounded him and made him dance. Then they bit off his nose and ears with their teeth and spoke the Lord's glorious fame before letting him go.
जिन्ह कर नासा कान निपाता। तिन्ह रावनहि कही सब बाता॥ सुनत श्रवन बारिधि बंधाना। दस मुख बोलि उठा अकुलाना॥ ५ ॥

Jinha kara nāsā kāna nipātā। Tinha rāvanahi kahī saba bātā॥ Sunata śravana bāridhi bandhānā। Dasa mukha boli uṭhā akulānā॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
The demons whose noses and ears had been cut off told Ravan everything. Hearing that the ocean had been bound, Ravan became agitated and spoke out with his ten mouths.
बाँध्यो बननिधि नीरनिधि जलधि सिंधु बारीस। सत्य तोयनिधि कंपति उदधि पयोधि नदीस॥ ५ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
Bāṃdhyo bananidhi nīranidhi jaladhi sindhu bārīsa। Satya toyanidhi kampati udadhi payodhi nadīsa॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
Has the ocean truly been bound—the forest-sea, water-sea, jaladhi, sindhu, bārīsa, toyanidhi, kampati, udadhi, payodhi, and nadīśa? Has it really been tied down?
