Angada's Return and Dialogue with Rama
After returning from Lanka, Angada reports all that transpired to Rama. Their dialogue turns to Ravana's obstinacy and the course ahead.

रिपु के समाचार जब पाए। राम सचिव सब निकट बोलाए॥ लंका बाँके चारि दुआरा। केहि बिधि लागिअ करहु बिचारा॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
ripu ke samācār jab pāe। Rāma saciva saba nikaṭa bolāe॥ laṃkā bāṃke cāri duārā। kehi bidhi lāgia karahu bicārā॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
When news of the enemy came, Rama summoned all his ministers and said: Lanka has four formidable gates. By what means should we attack them? Consider carefully.
तब कपीस रिच्छेस बिभीषन। सुमिरि हृदयँ दिनकर कुल भूषन॥ करि बिचार तिन्ह मंत्र दृढ़ावा। चारि अनी कपि कटकु बनावा॥ २ ॥

taba kapīsa ricchesa bibhīṣana। sumiri hṛdayaṃ dinakara kula bhūṣana॥ kari bicāra tinha mantra dṛḍhāvā। cāri anī kapi kaṭaku banāvā॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Then Sugriva, king of the monkeys, Jambavan, lord of the bears, and Vibhishana remembered in their hearts Rama, the ornament of the Solar race. After deliberation, they fixed their plan. The monkey army was divided into four divisions.
जथाजोग सेनापति कीन्हे। जूथप सकल बोलि तब लीन्हे॥ प्रभु प्रताप कहि सब समुझाए। सुनि कपि सिंघनाद करि धाए॥ ३ ॥

jathājoga senāpati kīnhe। jūthapa sakala boli taba līnhe॥ prabhu pratāpa kahi saba samujhāe। sini kapi siṃghanāda kari dhāe॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
They appointed commanders as suited to each one. Then they called all the troop leaders together and, speaking of the Lord's glory, instructed them; hearing this, the monkeys roared like lions and rushed forward.
हरषित राम चरन सिर नावहिं। गहि गिरि सिखर बीर सब धावहिं॥ गर्जहिं तर्जहिं भालु कपीसा। जय रघुबीर कोसलाधीसा॥ ४ ॥

haraṣita Rāma carana sira nāvahim। gahi giri sikhara bīra saba dhāvahim॥ garjahim tarjahim bhālu kapīsā। jaya raghubīra kosalādhīsā॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Rejoicing, they bow their heads at Rama's feet, and all the warriors run onward, carrying mountain peaks in their hands. Bears and monkeys roar and challenge, crying, Victory to Raghubir, Lord of Kosala.
जानत परम दुर्ग अति लंका। प्रभु प्रताप कपि चले असंका॥ घटाटोप करि चहुँ दिसि घेरी। मुखहिं निसान बजावहिं भेरी॥ ५ ॥

jānata parama durga ati laṃkā। prabhu pratāpa kapi cale asaṃkā॥ ghaṭāṭopa kari cahuṃ disi gherī। mukhahim nisāna bajāvahim bherī॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
Though they knew Lanka to be an immensely strong fortress, the monkeys advanced fearlessly, trusting in the power of Lord Rama. Encircling Lanka on all sides like a mass of storm clouds, they sounded the war-drums and kettledrums with their mouths.
जयति राम जय लछिमन जय कपीस सुग्रीव। गर्जहिं सिंहनाद कपि भालु महा बल सींव॥ ३९ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
jayati Rāma jaya lachimana jaya kapīsa sugrīva। garjahim siṃhanāda kapi bhālu mahā bala sīṃva॥ 39 ॥
Meaning:
With strength beyond measure, the monkeys and bears roared in lion-like voices, crying, Victory to Rama, Victory to Lakshman, Victory to Sugriva, king of the monkeys.
