Hanuman Bids Farewell to Sita and Receives the Chudamani

After burning Lanka, Hanuman returns once more to Sita and takes her leave. She gives him the Chudamani as a loving token and message for Rama.

Chaupai

मातु मोहि दीजे कछु चीन्हा। जैसें रघुनायक मोहि दीन्हा॥ चूड़ामनि उतारि तब दयऊ। हरष समेत पवनसुत लयऊ॥ १ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

mātu mohi dīje kachu cīnhā। jaisen raghunāyaka mohi dīnhā॥ cūṛāmani utāri taba dayau। haraṣa sameta pavanasuta layau॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

[Hanuman said:] O Mother, give me some token of identification, as Shri Raghunath gave me. Then Sita removed her Chudamani and gave it. Hanuman took it joyfully.

Chaupai

कहेहु तात अस मोर प्रनामा। सब प्रकार प्रभु पूरनकामा॥ दीन दयाल बिरिदु संभारी। हरहु नाथ मम संकट भारी॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kahehu tāta asa mora pranāmā। saba prakāra prabhu pūranakāmā॥ dīna dayāla biridu sambhārī। harahu nātha mama saṃkaṭa bhārī॥ 2 ॥

Meaning:

[Sita said:] O dear one, convey my salutations and say this: O Lord, though You are fulfilled in every way and have no desire of Your own, yet compassion for the lowly is Your vow. Remembering that vow, O Lord, remove my great distress.

Chaupai

तात सक्रसुत कथा सुनाएहु। बान प्रताप प्रभुहि समुझाएहु॥ मास दिवस महुँ नाथु न आवा। तौ पुनि मोहि जिअत नहिं पावा॥ ३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

tāta sakrasuta kathā sunāehu। bāna pratāpa prabhuhi samujhāehu॥ māsa divasa mahuṃ nāthu na āvā। tau puni mohi jiat nahiṃ pāvā॥ 3 ॥

Meaning:

O dear one, tell the story of Indra's son Jayanta and remind the Lord of the power of his arrow. If the Lord does not come within a month, then you will not find me alive.

Chaupai

कहु कपि केहि बिधि राखौं प्राना। तुम्हहू तात कहत अब जाना॥ तोहि देखि सीतलि भइ छाती। पुनि मो कहुँ सोइ दिनु सो राती॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kahu kapi kehi bidhi rākhauṃ prānā। tumhahū tāta kahata aba jānā॥ tohi dekhi sītali bhai chātī। puni mo kahuṃ soi dinu soi rātī॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

O Hanuman, tell me, how am I to keep my life? Dear one, even you are now saying that you must go. Seeing you, my heart became cool; then for me there is only that same day and that same night!

Doha

जनकसुतहि समुझाइ करि बहु बिधि धीरजु दीन्ह। चरन कमल सिरु नाइ कपि गवनु राम पहिं कीन्ह॥ २७ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

janakasutahi samujhāi kari bahu bidhi dhīraju dīna। charana kamala siru nāi kapi gavanu rāma pahiṃ kīna॥ 27 ॥

Meaning:

Hanuman consoled Janaki in many ways and gave her courage. Bowing his head at her lotus feet, he then departed to Rama.
