Lakshmana's Duel with Ravana

रे खल का मारसि कपि भालू। मोहि बिलोकु तोर मैं कालू॥ खोजत रहेउँ तोहि सुतघाती। आजु निपाति जुड़ावउँ छाती॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
re khala kā mārasi kapi bhālū। mohi biloku tora maiṃ kālū॥ khojata raheuṃ tohi sutaghātī। āju nipāti juṛāvauṃ chātī॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
[Lakshmana came near and said:] 'O wicked one, why are you killing the monkeys and bears? Look at me—I am your death!' [Ravana said:] 'O slayer of my son! I have been searching for you. Today I will kill you and cool my chest (satisfy my wrath).'
अस कहि छाड़ेसि बान प्रचंडा। लछिमन किए सकल सत खंडा॥ कोटिन्ह आयुध रावन डारे। तिल प्रवान करि काटि निवारे॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
asa kahi chhāḍesi bāna pracaṇḍā। lachimana kie sakala sata khaṇḍā॥ koṭinha āyudha rāvana ḍāre। tila pravāna kari kāṭi nivāre॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Saying this, he released fierce arrows. Lakshmana cut all of them to pieces. Ravana hurled countless weapons; Lakshmana sliced them away, reducing them to nothing, as if they were sesame seeds.
पुनि निज बानन्ह कीन्ह प्रहारा। स्यंदनु भंजि सारथी मारा॥ सत सत सर मारे दस भाला। गिरि सृंगन्ह जनु प्रबिसहिं ब्याला॥ ३ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
puni nija bānanha kīhna prahārā। syandanu bhañji sārathī mārā॥ sata sata sara māre dasa bhālā। giri sṛṅghanha janu prabisahiṃ byālā॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
Then he struck again with his own arrows, shattering the chariot and killing the charioteer. He sent a hundred arrows into each of Ravana’s ten heads; they pierced them like serpents entering the crevices of a mountain peak.
पुनि सत सर मारा उर माहीं। परेउ धरनि तल सुधि कछु नाहीं॥ उठा प्रबल पुनि मुरुछा जागी। छाड़िसि ब्रह्म दीन्हि जो साँगी॥ ४ ॥

puni sata sara mārā ura māhīṃ। pareu dharani tala sudhi kachu nāhīṃ॥ uṭhā prabala puni muruchā jāgī। chhāḍisi brahma dīnhi jo sāṅgī॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Then he struck his chest with a hundred arrows. He fell to the ground and lost all awareness. When the swoon passed, the mighty Ravana rose again and wielded the divine weapon Brahma had given him.
सो ब्रह्म दत्त प्रचंड सक्ति अनंत उर लागी सही। पर्यो बीर बिकल उठाव दसमुख अतुल बल महिमा रही॥ ब्रह्मांड भवन बिराज जाकें एक सिर जिमि रज कनी। तेहि चह उठावन मूढ़ रावन जान नहिं त्रिभुअन धनी॥

so brahma datta pracaṇḍa sakti ananta ura lāgī sahī। paryo bīra bikala uṭhāva dasamukha atula bala mahimā rahī॥ brahmāṇḍa bhavana birāja jākeṃ eka sira jimi raja kanī। tehi caha uṭhāvana mūṛha rāvana jāna nahiṃ tribhuana dhanī॥
Meaning:
That terrible weapon granted by Brahma struck the very chest of the limitless one. The hero fell, overwhelmed. Ravana then tried to lift him, but his unmatched strength was powerless. The one whose single head is like a speck of dust supporting the whole universe—how could that fool Ravana hope to lift him? He does not know the Lord of the three worlds.
देखि पवनसुत धायउ बोलत बचन कठोर। आवत कपिहि हन्यो तेहिं मुष्टि प्रहार प्रघोर॥ ८३ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
dekhi pavanasuta dhāyau bolata bacana kaṭhora। āvata kapihi hanyo tehiṃ muṣṭi prahāra praghora॥ 83 ॥
Meaning:
Seeing this, the Son of the Wind rushed forward, speaking harsh words. As Hanuman approached, Ravana struck him a fierce blow with his fist.
