Rama Protects Vishvamitra's Sacrifice

प्रात कहा मुनि सन रघुराई। निर्भय जग्य करहु तुम्ह जाई॥ होम करन लागे मुनि झारी। आपु रहे मख कीं रखवारी॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
prāta kahā muni sana raghurāī। nirbhaya jagya karahu tumha jāī॥ homa karana lāge muni jhārī। āpu rahe makha kīṃ rakhavārī॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
In the morning, Shri Raghunath said to the sage, 'Go and perform the sacrifice without fear.' Hearing this, the sages began the oblations, while Rama Himself stood guard over the sacrifice.
सुनि मारीच निसाचर क्रोही। लै सहाय धावा मुनिद्रोही॥ बिनु फर बान राम तेहि मारा। सत जोजन गा सागर पारा॥ २ ॥

suni mārīca nisācara krohī। lai sahāya dhāvā munidrohī॥ binu phara bāna rāma tehi mārā। sata jojana gā sāgara pāra॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
Hearing this news, Maricha, the demon hostile to the sages, rushed forth with his allies. Rama struck him with a seedless arrow, and he was hurled across the ocean, a hundred yojanas away.
पावक सर सुबाहु पुनि मारा। अनुज निसाचर कटकु सँघारा॥ मारि असुर द्विज निर्भयकारी। अस्तुति करहिं देव मुनि झारी॥ ३ ॥

pāvaka sara subāhu puni mārā। anuja nisācara kaṭaku saṃghārā॥ māri asura dvija nirbhayakārī। astuti karahiṃ deva muni jhārī॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
Then Subahu was struck by the fiery arrow. Meanwhile, Lakshmana destroyed the demon host. Thus Rama slew the demons and made the Brahmins fearless. Thereafter all the gods and sages began to offer praise.
तहँ पुनि कछुक दिवस रघुराया। रहे कीन्हि बिप्रन्ह पर दाया॥ भगति हेतु बहु कथा पुराना। कहे बिप्र जद्यपि प्रभु जाना॥ ४ ॥

tahaṃ puni kachuka divasa raghurāyā। rahe kīnhi bipranha para dāyā॥ bhagati hetu bahu kathā purānā। kahe bipra jadyapi prabhu jānā॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Raghunath stayed there for some more days and showed kindness to the Brahmins. For the sake of devotion, the Brahmins recounted many stories from the Puranas to Him, though the Lord already knew everything.
तब मुनि सादर कहा बुझाई। चरित एक प्रभु देखिअ जाई॥ धनुषजग्य सुनि रघुकुल नाथा। हरषि चले मुनिबर के साथा॥ ५ ॥

taba muni sādar kahā bujhāī। carita eka prabhu dekhiya jāī॥ dhanuṣajagya suni raghukula nāthā। haraṣi cale munibara ke sāthā॥ 5 ॥
Meaning:
Then the sage explained respectfully, saying, 'O Lord, come and see a wondrous event.' Hearing of the bow sacrifice, the Lord of the Raghu race joyfully went with the great sage Vishvamitra.
आश्रम एक दीख मग माहीं। खग मृग जीव जंतु तहँ नाहीं॥ पूछा मुनिहि सिला प्रभु देखी। सकल कथा मुनि कहा बिसेषी॥ ६ ॥

āśrama eka dīkha maga māhīṃ। khaga mṛga jīva jaṃtu tahaṃ nāhīṃ॥ pūchā munihi silā prabhu dekhī। sakala kathā muni kahā biseṣī॥ 6 ॥
Meaning:
On the way a hermitage came into view. There was no bird, beast, or living creature there. Seeing a stone slab, the Lord asked about it, and the sage then told the whole story in detail.
गौतम नारि श्राप बस उपल देह धरि धीर। चरन कमल रज चाहति कृपा करहु रघुबीर॥ २१० ॥

gautama nāri śrāpa basa upala deha dhari dhīra। carana kamala raja cāhati kṛpā karahu raghubīra॥ 210 ॥
Meaning:
O Rama, the wife of Gautama, under a curse and bearing the body of a stone, awaits the dust of your lotus feet with great patience. O Raghubir, show her your grace.
