Rama Urges Shiva to Marry
Rama requests Shiva to accept marriage with Parvati for the welfare of the world. The Lord’s words turn events toward their auspicious fulfillment.

अब बिनती मम सुनहु सिव जौं मो पर निज नेहु। जाइ बिबाहहु सैलजहि यह मोहि मागें देहु॥ ७६ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
aba binatī mama sunahu siva jaṃ mo para nija nehu। jāi bibāhahu sailajahi yaha mohi māgẽ deu॥ 76 ॥
Meaning:
Then He said to Shiva: O Shiva, if you have your own affection for me, listen now to my request. Grant me this boon: go and marry Parvati.
कह सिव जदपि उचित अस नाहीं। नाथ बचन पुनि मेटि न जाहीं॥ सिर धरि आयसु करिअ तुम्हारा। परम धरमु यह नाथ हमारा॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
kaha siva jadapi ucita asa nāhīṃ। nātha bacana puni meṭi na jāhīṃ॥ sira dhari āyasu kariu tumhārā। parama dharamu yaha nātha hamārā॥ 1 ॥
Meaning:
Shiva said, 'Though this is not appropriate, the word of my Lord cannot be set aside. O Lord, my highest duty is to place your command on my head and obey it.'
मातु पिता गुर प्रभु कै बानी। बिनहिं बिचार करिअ सुभ जानी॥ तुम्ह सब भाँति परम हितकारी। अग्या सिर पर नाथ तुम्हारी॥ २ ॥

mātu pitā guru prabhu kai bānī। binahiṃ bicāra kariu subha jānī॥ tumha saba bhāṃti parama hitakārī। agyā sira para nātha tumhārī॥ 2 ॥
Meaning:
The words of mother, father, guru, and Lord should be accepted as good without debate. You are my supreme benefactor in every way. O Lord, your command rests upon my head.
प्रभु तोषेउ सुनि संकर बचना। भक्ति बिबेक धर्म जुत रचना॥ कह प्रभु हर तुम्हार पन रहेऊ। अब उर राखेहु जो हम कहेऊ॥ ३ ॥

prabhu toṣeu suni saṃkara bacanā। bhakti bibeka dharma juta rachanā॥ kaha prabhu hara tumhāra pana raheū। aba ura rākhehu jo hama kaheū॥ 3 ॥
Meaning:
Hearing Shiva's words, which were filled with devotion, discernment, and dharma, Lord Rama was pleased. The Lord said, 'O Hara, your vow has been fulfilled. Now keep in your heart what I have said.'
अंतरधान भए अस भाषी। संकर सोइ मूरति उर राखी॥ तबहिं सप्तरिषि सिव पहिं आए। बोले प्रभु अति बचन सुहाए॥ ४ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
antaradhāna bhae asa bhāṣī। saṃkara soi mūrati ura rākhī॥ tabahiṃ saptariṣi siva pahiṃ āe। bole prabhu ati bacana suhāe॥ 4 ॥
Meaning:
Having spoken thus, Sri Rama disappeared. Shiva kept that form in his heart. At that very moment the seven sages came to Shiva, and Lord Mahadeva spoke to them in very sweet words.
पारबती पहिं जाइ तुम्ह प्रेम परिच्छा लेहु। गिरिहि प्रेरि पठएहु भवन दूरि करेहु संदेहु॥ ७७ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
pārabatī pahiṃ jāi tumha prema parichā lehu। girihi preri paṭhaehu bhavana dūri karehu sandehu॥ 77 ॥
Meaning:
Go to Parvati and test her devotion. Then, urging Himavat, send her to bring Parvati home, and remove her doubt.
