राम चलत अति भयउ बिषादू। सुनि न जाइ पुर आरत नादू॥ कुसगुन लंक अवध अति सोकू। हरष बिषाद बिबस सुरलोकू॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
rāma calata ati bhayau biṣādū। suni na jāi pura ārata nādū॥ kusaguna laṃka avadha ati sokū। haraṣa biṣāda bibasa suralokū॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
When Rama departed, great sorrow arose. The cry of distress in the city could not even be heard. Ill omens appeared in Lanka, Ayodhya was filled with deep grief, and in the heavenly worlds all were bound by both joy and sorrow. [The joy was at the thought that the demons would now be destroyed, and the sorrow was due to the grief of the people of Ayodhya.]
