पितु बनदेव मातु बनदेवी। खग मृग चरन सरोरुह सेवी॥ अंतहुँ उचित नृपहि बनबासू। बय बिलोकि हियँ होइ हराँसू॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
pitu banadeva mātu banadevī। khaga mṛga carana saroruha sevī॥ aṃtahuṃ ucita nṛpahi banabāsū। baya biloki hiyaṃ hoi harāṃsū॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
The forest gods will be your father and the forest goddesses your mother. The birds and beasts there will be servants at your lotus feet. For a king, living in the forest is fitting in the end. Only your tender age makes the heart feel sorrow.
Context
This is Chaupai 2, Under Doha 56 from Ayodhya Kand, in the episode “Ram Tells Kaushalya of His Exile”. The episode describes Rama's gentle words informing Kaushalya of exile and her grief-stricken yet noble acceptance.
