गए सुमंत्रु तब राउर माहीं। देखि भयावन जात डेराहीं॥ धाइ खाइ जनु जाइ न हेरा। मानहुँ बिपति बिषाद बसेरा॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
gae sumaṃtru taba rāura māhīṃ। dekhi bhayāvana jāta ḍerāhīṃ॥ dhāi khāi janu jāi na herā। mānahuṃ bipati biṣāda baserā॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
Then Sumantra entered the royal palace, but seeing it so dreadful, he became afraid as he went. It seemed as though one would be bitten by something rushing at him, and it could not even be looked at. It was as if misfortune and sorrow had pitched their tent there.
Context
This is Chaupai 2, Under Doha 38 from Ayodhya Kand, in the episode “Kaikeyi's Demands, Sumantra Summons Ram”. The episode describes Kaikeyi's two cruel demands plunging Dasharatha into grief, and Sumantra summoning Rama.
