चलत रामु लखि अवध अनाथा। बिकल लोग सब लागे साथा॥ कृपासिंधु बहुबिधि समुझावहिं। फिरहिं प्रेम बस पुनि फिरि आवहिं॥ २ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
calata rāmu lakhi avadha anāthā। bikala loga saba lāge sāthā॥ kṛpāsiṃdhu bahubidhi samujhāvahiṃ। phirahiṃ prema basa puni phiri āvahiṃ॥ 2 ॥
Meaning
When they saw Rama leaving and Ayodhya becoming orphaned, all the people were overwhelmed and joined him. The ocean of mercy, Rama, tried to persuade them in many ways; they would turn back toward Ayodhya, but then, driven by love, they would return again.
Context
This is Chaupai 2, Under Doha 83 from Ayodhya Kand, in the episode “Departure for the Forest, Ayodhya Left Behind”. The episode describes Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana departing for the forest while Ayodhya's grieving citizens are left sleeping behind.
