बिषम बिषाद तोरावति धारा। भय भ्रम भवँर अबर्त अपारा॥ केवट बुध बिद्या बड़ि नावा। सकहिं न खेइ ऐक नहिं आवा॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

biṣama biṣāda torāvati dhārā। bhaya bhrama bhavaṃra abarta apārā॥ kevaṭa budha bidyā baṛi nāvā। sakaḥi na khei aika nahiṃ āvā॥ 2 ॥

Meaning

Terrible despair is the river’s swift current. Fear and delusion are its countless whirlpools and eddies. The learned are the boatmen, and knowledge is the great boat; yet they cannot row it, nor can anyone make sense of it.
