करहिं अहार साक फल कंदा। सुमिरहिं ब्रह्म सच्चिदानंदा॥ पुनि हरि हेतु करन तप लागे। बारि अधार मूल फल त्यागे॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
karahiṃ ahāra sāka phala kandā। sumirahiṃ brahma saccidānandā॥ puni hari hetu karana tapa lāge। bāri adhāra mūla phala tyāge॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
They ate leaves, fruits, and roots, and remembered Brahman, who is existence, consciousness, and bliss. Then, for the sake of Hari, they undertook austerity and gave up roots and fruits, subsisting only on water.
