तापस बेष बिसेषि उदासी। चौदह बरिस रामु बनबासी॥ सुनि मृदु बचन भूप हियँ सोकू। ससि कर छुअत बिकल जिमि कोकू॥ २ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

tāpasa beṣa biseṣi udāsī। caudah barisa rāmu banabāsī॥ suni mṛdu bacana bhūpa hiyaṃ sokū। sasi kara chuata bikala jimi kokū॥ 2 ॥

Meaning

In the guise of an ascetic, with complete detachment, Rama should live in the forest for fourteen years, like a renunciant monk. Hearing Kaikeyi’s gentle words, the king’s heart was struck with sorrow, as a bird grows distressed at the touch of moonbeams.
