कैकयसुता सुनत कटु बानी। कहि न सकइ कछु सहमि सुखानी॥ तन पसेउ कदली जिमि काँपी। कुबरीं दसन जीभ तब चाँपी॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
kaikayasutā sunata kaṭu bānī। kahi na sakai kachu sahami sukhānī॥ tana paseu kadalī jimi kāṃpī। kubarīṃ dasana jībha taba chāṃpī॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
Hearing Manthara's bitter words, Kaikeyi was struck with fear and withered in silence, unable to say anything. Sweat broke out on her body, and she trembled like a banana plant in the wind. Then the hunchbacked woman (Manthara) bit her tongue between her teeth, fearing that if the dreadful future picture were presented too strongly, Kaikeyi's heart might fail and the whole plan would be ruined.
