यत्पूर्वं प्रभुणा कृतं सुकविना श्रीशम्भुना दुर्गमं। श्रीमद्रामपदाब्जभक्तिमनिशं प्राप्त्ये तु रामायणम्॥ मत्वा तद्रघुनाथनामनिरतं स्वान्तस्तमःशान्तये। भाषाबद्धमिदं चकार तुलसीदासस्तथा मानसम्॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
yatpūrvaṃ prabhunā kṛtaṃ sukavinā śrīśambhunā durgamaṃ। śrīmadrāmapadābjabhaktimaniśaṃ prāptye tu rāmāyaṇam॥ matvā tadraghunāthanāmanirataṃ svāntastamaḥśāntaye। bhāṣābaddhamidaṃ cakāra tulasīdāsastathā mānasam॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
The difficult Ramayana, composed earlier by the excellent poet Lord Shambhu, was meant for the constant attainment of devotion to the lotus feet of Shri Rama. Considering it devoted to the name of Raghunatha, Tulsi Das rendered it into the vernacular as this Manas, to dispel the darkness of his own heart.
