पुरबासी सुनि चलिहि बराता। बूझत बिकल परस्पर बाता॥ सत्य गवनु सुनि सब बिलखाने। मनहुँ साँझ सरसिज सकुचाने॥ १ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

purabāsī suni calihi barātā। būjhata bikala paraspara bātā॥ satya gavanu suni saba bilakhāne। manahuṃ sāṃjha sarasija sakucāne॥ 1 ॥

Meaning

When the people of Janakpur heard that the wedding party was to depart, they became distressed and questioned one another. Hearing that it was indeed true, they were all grieved, as though the lotuses had closed at dusk.
