Chaupai

कीन्हि प्रस्न जेहि भाँति भवानी। जेहि बिधि संकर कहा बखानी॥ सो सब हेतु कहब मैं गाई। कथा प्रबंध बिचित्र बनाई॥ १ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kīnhi prasna jehi bhāṃti bhavānī। jehi bidhi saṃkara kahā bakhānī॥ so saba hetu kahaba maiṃ gāī। kathā prabaṃdha bicitra banāī॥ 1 ॥

Meaning:

I shall tell, in a beautifully composed narrative, all the circumstances of how Bhavani asked her question and how Shiva explained it.

Chaupai

जेहिं यह कथा सुनी नहिं होई। जनि आचरजु करै सुनि सोई॥ कथा अलौकिक सुनहिं जे ग्यानी। नहिं आचरजु करहिं अस जानी॥ रामकथा कै मिति जग नाहीं। असि प्रतीति तिन्ह के मन माहीं॥ नाना भाँति राम अवतारा। रामायन सत कोटि अपारा॥ २-३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

jehiṃ yaha kathā sunī nahim hoī। jani ācaraju karai suni soī॥ kathā alaukika sunahiṃ je gyānī। nahiṃ ācaraju karahiṃ asa jānī॥ rāmakathā kai miti jaga nāhīṃ। asi pratīti tinh ke mana māhīṃ॥ nānā bhāṃti rāma avatārā। rāmāyana sata koṭi apārā॥ 2-3 ॥

Meaning:

One who has not heard this story before should not be astonished upon hearing it. The wise, who hear this wondrous कथा, do not wonder, knowing that the story of Rama is boundless in the world. Such conviction rests in their hearts. Rama’s incarnations are of many kinds, and the Ramayana exists in countless and immeasurable forms.

Chaupai

कलपभेद हरिचरित सुहाए। भाँति अनेक मुनीसन्ह गाए॥ करिअ न संसय अस उर आनी। सुनिअ कथा सादर रति मानी॥ ४ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

kalapabheda haricarita suhāe। bhāṃti aneka munīsanha gāe॥ karia na saṃsaya asa ura ānī। suni'a kathā sāadara rati mānī॥ 4 ॥

Meaning:

According to different ages, the lovely deeds of Hari have been sung in many ways by the great sages. Bearing this in mind, do not doubt; hear this story with reverence and loving attention.

Doha

राम अनंत अनंत गुन अमित कथा बिस्तार। सुनि आचरजु न मानिहहिं जिन्ह कें बिमल बिचार॥ ३३ ॥

Transliteration (IAST)

rāma anaṃta anaṃta guna amita kathā bistāra। suni ācaraju na mānihahim jinha keṃ bimala bicāra॥ 33 ॥

Meaning:

Rama is infinite, His virtues are infinite, and the spread of His कथा is also boundless. Therefore, those whose thoughts are pure will not be astonished upon hearing it.
