भूपति मरन पेम पनु राखी। जननी कुमति जगतु सबु साखी॥ देखि न जाहिं बिकल महतारीं। जरहिं दुसह जर पुर नर नारीं॥ १ ॥
Transliteration (IAST)
bhūpati marana pema panu rākhī। jananī kumati jagatu sabu sākhī॥ dekhi na jāhiṃ bikala mahatārīṃ। jarahiṃ dusaha jara pura nara nārīṃ॥ 1 ॥
Meaning
The death of the king while keeping his vow of love, and the evil counsel of the mother—both are witnessed by the whole world. The mothers are distraught and cannot be borne to look upon. The men and women of Ayodhya are burning in unbearable grief.
